DC Collectibles Wonder Woman Cover Girls Statue

Hey everyone~!

Hope everyone has been well and that the Lord has been blessing you. Hey it occurs to me that I spend a lot of time featuring nerd type stuff, but besides my "About Me" page, there isn't much mentioned regarding faith. If you need prayer about anything, let me know~! You can PM me on Facebook or if you have my email address you can email me, or if you have my number you can text me. Basically, I am willing to pray for you. I know everyone has problems and issues so I'm willing to pray if you're willing to tell me.

Today, I want to feature a statue that I got as a gift from my best friend +James Kim for my birthday. This stunning Wonder Woman statue comes from DC Collectibles. Below I have featured all of the box art and pictures of the statue itself. This is the only Wonder Woman statue that I feel like tastefully depicts Diana without being over sexualized as they have been in the past. Also, all of the other Wonder Woman statues for some reason come out with super pale complexion, which I do not believe to be faithful to who Wonder Woman is; an Amazon with now ties to the Greek pantheon, which would mean she is of Mediterranean origin. All that to say, not every superhero is white! Certainly not Wonder Woman, so it's good to see her with a tan that's more becoming of her background lol. BTW this is not a serious commentary about race and ethnicity in comic books, just a half serious one with some unqualified observations made by yours truly. Anyways, take a look and comment below what you think of the statue!

Comics for the Ladies

So working at amazing +Undercity Comics (Uptown Whittier) I get to talk to lots of nice folks about what's good in the comic book world. I also get to answer lots of questions, and the one of the most frequently asked questions come from our lady customers who are asking, "What are some good comics that have strong female characters, or are made for female readers?"
Unlike what the picture says, the tides are turning and women want to read good comic books that are more representative of society (which is not all male).
I love answering this question because:
  1. Girls are coming into comic book stores (well at least ours) and asking about comic books and asking for recommendations!
  2. The comic book industry is slowly starting to (finally) get some great female talent in writing and in art and starting to produce some great comics featuring strong female characters that aren't just written for women, but are just great comics in general.

Batman: Hush

Today I would like to showcase a comic book that I bought recently in my Black Friday post: Batman: Hush (the complete story arc). This book contains Batman issues 608-619. The art is done by Jim Lee who is one of my favorite comic book artists, and Jeph Loeb on the writing. This was a comic book that I always knew was on my "must read" list so I was thrilled when I found it on Black Friday sale at Undercity.
Batman: Hush should be a must read for everyone into comics or Batman.
