Nerd Builds: RG RX-78-2

I am very happy to present to you my very first build post! And what more of an appropriate build to post on than the grandaddy of all Gundam: the RX-78-2. This is the original main mech from Mobile Suit Gundam (1979) piloted by Amuro Ray. This is also the very first Real Grade model (1:144) released by Bandai in July 2010 for the 30th anniversary of Gunpla. I did a straight build on this and still have not attached any of the stickers on it. They're just so dang small…Decals/stickers will in large be the reason why my models will probably be WIPs. But otherwise, this was a really fun build! I didn't  think building the oldest Gundam would be so enjoyable, but there is some charm in just a plain Gundam lightly armed unlike the super bulky/winged/armed Gundams that are released nowadays. Just as a reminder, this is a Real Grade, so it can be challenging to build. Real Grade models are much more intricate in detail and therefore have many more parts in inner frame and outer armor. I do not recommend choosing this model as a beginner build. I practiced on multiple SD's and three HG's and built this one to get myself primed for building my first Master Grade. So use your discretion.

The box art is awesome!
Anytime there's a new line, the flagship model is released first. Even more so for an anniversary.
I washed the plastic to get all of the mold releasing chemicals off, since it helps with any paint or finish you put on.
The "A" runner is usually the runner with a bunch of different colors.
The beginning: ankles
Just a heads up: that rectangular peace at the top actually comes out. I missed this in the instructions and was stumped for almost an hour.
Another angle of the angle that stumped me…told you RG is challenging.
Finally both ankles are done!

Now a leg
Starts with this frame piece. Most of it comes pre-assembled...
…but after attaching different armor layers...
…you get legs. Make sure you bend the joints a couple of times before completion, otherwise plates can fall off when posing.
Beginning the chest. There are small gold stickers that go in the yellow vents. VERY DIFFICULT.
Side view of torso with beam saber holder.
Back view with boosters
Completed torso attached to hip and legs.

And now the arms

These two pieces pop off and are not a part of the arm…but don't throw them away! You'll need it later.

This piece is a hassle. its on the inside of the arm joint and its weak so be careful...

…mostly a hassle because of the gold stickers you have to gingerly place on each plastic rung.

Almost there

one arm done…

...two arms done.

Don't forget the shoulder guards.

Now the head unit. They eyes are hard to place on the clear piece.

looking good

Head unit done.
Looking a little light.
rifle, bazooka, and shield
Now there's a stunner.
Mean muggin, with da cross no less. I would like to battle Satan in a sanctified Gundam lol

There you have it! I haven't done any panel lining, put on any decals, or even put on a top coat, but it still looks good. This isn't a review, but my verdict on this kit is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! This was a fun build and it looks super cool. Just look out for the parts I warned you about and it should be fine. Be blessed everyone and be a blessing, and we'll see y'all at the next build!
