2014 Movie Previews Part 2

Hello nerds! Hasn't it already been a great year for movies? I know that I am already behind on my movie reviews so that's how good this summer's movies have been. Stay tuned for my review on X-Men: Days of Future Past. But for now, let's look ahead to the movies I am looking forward to for the second half of 2014. I know my list doesn't include the second Planet of the Apes or Sin City 2 but honestly...I've never been a big fan of the Apes, and it's just been a long time since we've seen a Sin City and honestly, I wasn't a fan of the first one either. So you won't see them featured on this list, but that's only because I personally don't feel that strongly for them. Anyways, here we go.

Lucy
Mrs. Nerd and I were able to see the preview panel at Wondercon this year, and we are excited! Director Luc Besson was on hand to give additional details like how they didn't film the movie in chronological sequence (they rarely do). So they had a wall in Scarlett's trailer where they would put up lists with different percentages of brain capacity with abilities and characteristics that would be unlocked with each different percentage so Scarlett would know how she needed to act according to the shooting schedule. Anyways, the whole Scarlett gains the power to use more of her brain than an average person and she uses it to kick major butt (unlike Bradley Cooper's Limitless) totally piques our interest. Releasing July 25th.

Guardians of the Galaxy
Once again, just super pumped, if you didn't know already about Guardians of the Galaxy. This intergalactic version of the Avengers is pretty obscure which is why I am so surprised but proud of Marvel for taking a chance and making a movie about them. In addition, they have done some awesome casting with Chris Pratt as the smart-alec Starlord. Not to mention, the movie makes fun of itself because it knows you don't know who they are, and neither does anyone in the movie galaxy. It's just super smart and it's got the cajones to tell us via trailer music that we're gonna love them. I'm already in love. In theaters August 1st.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
I am wanting to watch this movie strictly based on curiosity. I wonder just how badly Michael Bay will mess this movie up. According to the original premise that the turtles were going to be aliens and Megan Fox being cast as April O'Neil, it isn't terribly promising. Not to mention the mixed legacy that he already has for his mark on the Transformers series. But the comic book has been so good that I can't help but to have just a glimmer of hope. Let's hope it's at least a step in the right direction. In theaters August 8th.

The Giver
No this isn't the movie poster, but I couldn't find a good one that would remind everyone that this movie is based off of the award winning book by Lois Lowery. If you were in elementary school in the 90's then there was a good chance that you read it. It's another movie about an utopian society that is about to have a rude awakening. It's been done before, but not by an award winning book such as this. I am very excited and hope that it will be the dark horse of the summer. In theaters August 15th.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Pt. 1
Two questions: 1) is anyone surprised that the movie makers decided to split this movie in two? 2) omg do you care? The second installment was such an improvement on the first one that I cannot wait for the first part of the third one to come out and tell us what is going to happen to Katniss and the districts. Also with the tragic death of Philip Seymore Hoffman and the huge part that he ended up playing in the second movie, how will the movie have survived? As someone who didn't read the book perhaps my anticipation is greater than one who read it and knows what is going to happen, but either way, the fever pitch of the movie's coming should be building for all. In theaters November 21st.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies
Last but certainly not least is this Christmas time release. Is there anything that really needs to be said about the third installment of the Hobbit franchise that has also been conveniently split into two? Last year's outing was better than the first, but it left everyone on such a frustrating cliffhanger that everyone will be begging to give the theater their money. Let's just hope that it's worth the massive build up left by Smaug's impending destruction at the end of the second movie. In theaters December 17th.

Well there you have it! Honorable mention goes to Denzel Washington and Chloe Moretz's The Equalizer based on a TV show back in the day. Were there other movies that you think I've missed? Comment below and happy watching everyone!

Blessings~!
