Nerd Builds: Mega Scale Gundam AGE-2 Normal

Today's Nerd Build is Asamu Asuno's Gundam AGE-2 Normal from the Gundam AGE series. What makes this model special is that "MEGA SIZE MODEL" label on the bottom left corner of the box. That means this Gundam is 1:48 scale which turns out to be (you'll see) quite big. Now y'all might remember that I tried to build this back when I had my first gunpla party but failed because of the missing part. It finally came in and I am happy to report that it was worth the wait!

This might look like a HG kit, but it's actually freaking massive.

So the box is massive. If you didn't notice theres about a third of my couch on the left and a person sitting on the right.
It comes with a special edition of Hobby Japan and Dengeki Hobby magazine!
The manual
That's one giant runner for one part of the inner frame.
Polycaps are huge.

The inner frame is so big, you just snap the whole runner against the matching runner and cut out the assembled pieces!
Just lay the runners on top of each other, press down and then cut out the pieces.
More huge runners.

Feet, or boots…heels? Yea, boots. Definitely boots.
Leg inner frame assembly
Two runners pressed together waiting to be cut out, makes it so simple.

Legs done.
Remember this is where I stopped last time…
,,,because of that "O" runner...
...well a few months later, here it is, straight from Japan!
Which means I was able to complete the chest assembly.
The infamous "O" runner
Oh did I mention this thing lights up?
Turn the dial to make it light up.
Off
ON!
Back spoiler is attached and...
…voila!
Shoulder

Shoulders and arms, done.
It's getting there.
Wings
If the size wasn't apparent before, it should be now.
Face assembly
Profile

Big head
Nice.
Very Nice. The LED is the icing on the cake.
Assemble DOTS Rifle and...
Gundam AGE-2 Normal complete!

New home for the Mega Size Gundam
It's kind of like our security robot.
This build besides the wait for the missing part was an absolute joy. Actually it may have been my most enjoyable yet for the ease and the size, and just general fun. As far as the ease, you can think of it as an oversized HG model. I mentioned how the inner frame runners you just lay on top of each other and snap them together before snipping the completed parts out, and that really takes the tedium out from putting together all the gray inner frame, no fun parts. The size is massive. It stands at about 15 inches tall so he ain't no shawty. Those two factors mean that the build is just a whole ton of fun. The only downside, and that's a big downside is that because it's so big, and there's so much plastic, you're going to pay the price. This model cost me almost $100. So whether it is worth it or not is up to you.

But for me this was pound for pound the best build experience I have had and just look at it! My final verdict is if you can afford it, don't miss the Mega Size line of Gundams! In this scale of models they also have the RX-78-2, a couple Zakus, and the AGE-1 Normal.

Blessings~!
