Nerd Life: Date Night in a Galaxy Far, Far Away

Last night was date night. Mrs. Nerd and I have been quite busy with life this semester so far and with her starting to work again, we've had to be a lot more intentional about our times together, because honestly it's been tough. So what's a nerd to do?

Did you know that in Japan this movie is marketed for the love story and not sci-fi?
Awww jeeeyuh. The greatest love story in a galaxy far, far away. So we had some Chipotle, she built her RG Char's Zaku, and I was working on my first MG, the AGE-2 Dark Hound. Now that's a stay home relaxing date night, NERD STYLE.

It occurred to me though, poor Anakin, he was still a child in this movie and boy what a child. He meets Padme after a decade and is instantly infatuated with her. He's haunted by an image of her that's ten years old (probably when he was like 8?) and he spends all movie trying to make something out of nothing. Only in the face of death does Padme realize that she loves him. Unfortunately, one movie later she actually dies but at the hands of the young man who swore he loved her.

This story and my story has volumes to speak of but I'll say one thing. Relationships take devotion. What are the components of devotion? Time and intimacy (get your head out of the gutter, not that intimacy). But you can't just have intimacy after one time (time denoting what ever your standard unit of measuring time while spending time with someone would be) or instance. You really gotta get to know a person, and this can be a life long endeavor. A wise professor once told me and my classmates that "quality time takes quantity time." And this applies to every relationship we have.

A mature love for people takes loads of time, and it's an important principle that comes straight from THE TOP. Romans 5:8 says:
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Wait, didn't Jesus die like 2000 years ago? And isn't God supposed to be eternal? Does that mean that God/Jesus has loved me and known me for a LONG time? Bingo. Quality time does take quantity time. In the case of God, eternity, which would make his knowledge of us, well intimate would be understating it, but we don't really have any other qualifiers in the English language because were human and were not eternal.

So yea I fooled you. This wasn't really a post about Star Wars per se. But perhaps this will be an opportunity for us to think on our relationships and ask ourselves if we're really being intentional about loving others.

And as far as the Eternal Big Guy goes, do you know that he loves you and knows you and hopes you can be the same with Him? A prayer, if you haven't tried that in awhile, might be worth a shot. If you have any questions about sharing quality time with God, comment below. And as always, have a blessed day fellow nerds!
