Comic Book of the Week for 1/22/14

This week's comic comes from Jason Aaron's "Wolverine and the X-Men" issue 40! It's another comic book that I have been wanting to rave about for awhile…and now I have featured almost every X-Men comic book on CBotW. So if you remember that there was a schism in the X-Men (aptly named "Schism"), and Wolverine took over the east coast Jean Grey School of Higher Learning while Cyclops walked away with the uncanny half of the X-Men and started another school at the old Weapon-X facility. Wolverine and the X-Men features the adventures of the new generation of mutants being trained by X-Men faculty members and Wolverine as the headmaster. Things between Wolverine and Cyclops have been shaky since Cyclops under the influence of the Phoenix Force killed Professor Xavier (A vs. X saga).

It's too bad this series is ending soon, but all the more reason to catch up on a great read!
Today's comic actually features one of the last issues of the arc and unfortunately one of the last issues before the end of the series. Two new students (brother and sister) have enrolled at the Jean Grey School but they are actually spies for S.H.I.E.L.D. so the X-students have to deal with them before S.H.I.E.L.D. brings the school down. S.H.I.E.L.D. has been very naughty towards the X-Men as of late with their hidden until recently (Battle of the Atom) army of Sentinels that they unleashed on both the Wolverine and Cyclops camps of X-Men. If you know anything about the X-Men then you know, sicking the Sentinels on mutants is a big no no. So much that Wolverine and Cyclops both converge on the hidden base where the S.H.I.E.L.D. is storing them and even though initially they're not thrilled to see each other, they put away their squabble in order to take down the common foe. Reconciliation between two long lost friends is always a great thing, and reconciliation starts with forgiveness. Christ had something to say about forgiveness. In Luke 17, Jesus says,
“If your brother or sister[a] sins against you, rebuke them; and if they repent, forgive them."

Nothing like a little Sentinel bashing to bring two wayward friends back together.
They may not have completely forgiven each other, but at least they remember why they fought together at one time and not against each other, and it's good to see the two respect each other after all of the long standing rivalry and competing for Jean Grey's affection. Also it's good to see the potential for the X-Men to once again be one team and not two. I've had a bad taste in my mouth about the X-Men ever since Schism. Let's hope that reconciliation continues and the X-Men roster and school becomes even greater. This series is almost coming to an end, and because it's been so good, it's hard to see it go, but that means it's a great time to start reading! It's been consistently one of the best Marvel Now releases so don't miss out!

Blessings~!
