Comic Book of the Week for 2/12/14

Before I talk about today's CBotW, I just wanted to let everyone know that…WonderCon is back in Anaheim this April and the badges came out Friday~! If you've never been to a comic convention you should buy your badges ($50) and go to WonderCon at the Anaheim Convention Center!

Also I originally intended to publish this post Saturday, but there was a family emergency and my gramps is in the hospital. Sorry for the lapse, and your prayers are much appreciated.

Okay, today's comic book of the week features another new comic book from the Marvel NOW! line. She-Hulk #1 is out this week and if this is the caliber comic that this issue portends to be, were in for an hilarious ride a-la Hawkeye.

Don't let the awesome cover art fool you, this is a quirky, hilarious comic.

She-Hulk is actually a misnomer because this comic follows the adventures of one Jennifer Walters. Yes she is She-Hulk and it's hard to identify her without her role as an Avenger, a member of the Fantastic Four, and a female version of the Hulk with her being green all the time. But once again this comic begins with a conflict for Jennifer, not She-Hulk, as she works on her career as an attorney at law working in a dead end law firm. After deciding to go freelance, things get really hectic for Jennifer as she must battle against Tony Stark, not as Iron Man, but legally…and initially she gets her but handed to her.
I love the art especially in the last panel, where the paperwork against Jennifer is so steep you can't see her face.
Luckily, this comic has a great balance of She-Hulk action and Jennifer proving that she can be more than just a superhero, and a lawyer. See the real hero emerges as Jennifer just acts like a decent human being. That's the charm of this issue. whether she standing up for her Avengers friends to her ex scumbag boss, or standing up for her underdog client to Tony Stark, Jennifer shows class, character and integrity, and I think we can all use more examples of that in our lives because quite honestly, the world today is just rife with self satisfaction, and self preservation without much consideration for others.

Once again, the art is quirky, the dialogue is hilarious, but it's as real as a superhero comic can be. This all adds up to a mighty fine package for a great read. If this comic continues to be like issue #1, we could be looking at a comic book of the year. Pick this one up and read it~!

Blessings~!
